Glogg in the Microwave

By MixThatDrink

The Glogg in the Microwave is a cocktail recipe that involves using a microwave. It’s basically mulled wine, but done in the microwave instead of over the stove in a sauce pot. While it doesn’t call for all of the spices used in mulled wine, you can certainly add the rest in and make it your own.

But the use of fewer ingredients is part of this recipe’s charm, along with the use of a microwave instead of a stove. It’s the easiest way to get the flavor of mulled wine without as much of the work.

This drink tastes like a spiced and lightly sweetened wine. You don’t need to bring out your best red wine for this drink. It’s a great way to use up leftover wine or cheap bottles and make it taste delicious.

This is a big batch recipe that makes 6-8 servings, depending on the size glasses you use. Here we used a 3 ounce martini glass. The recipe calls for cordial glasses, which are even smaller, about the size of shot glasses. You can definitely use shot glasses if you want.

This is a great drink for a cool evening by the fire. It’s less work than making mulled wine. And because all you need is a microwave, it’s ideal for places where you may not have access to a stove top, like a hotel.

And do feel free to tweak this recipe to your taste. Use orange juice instead of lemon, if you like. Try adding in a little bit of brandy. Try honey instead of sugar, or leave out the cloves if they’re not your thing. This is a recipe you can’t go wrong with. It’s a great opportunity to get creative.

When serving to guests, this goes well with any food or nibbles mulled wine would pair with. Cheesecake and other mild desserts make a great choice. Coconut cake can go surprisingly well with spiced wine.

A dinner of chicken or whitefish would work well with it too. A nice mild risotto featuring asparagus or truffle also makes a nice option.
