The Ingredients

What’s in this cocktail? Amaretto and pineapple juice. It’s that simple.

Picking an Amaretto

I’ve never found a bottle of bad amaretto. I’ve had Disaronno and generic bottles I found at the liqueur store, and none of them ever ruined an amaretto cocktail.

The Amaretto Disaronno brand is one of the best, however. It has a little less sweet flavor and the notes of cherry and almond come through a little more brightly.

Pineapple Juice

Of course it would be great if you could buy a perfectly in-season pineapple right now and juice it. But that’s easier said than done for most of us, especially during certain seasons.

A bottle of pineapple juice will work just fine in cocktails. If you think you want something fancier than the usual grocery store brands, there are some organic juice brands that make great products.

But your standard Ocean Spray bottle will be good in cocktails.

When to Serve It

This drink is a shot, but it’s not to be tossed back and drunk all at once like tequila shooters at the end of a tough work week.

It’s got a great flavor that’s worth savoring. And it’s easy to scale up the amounts to make it a longer drink.

That makes it great for any occasion where you want a lighter cocktail. Or you can add in a portion of vodka to dilute the flavors and make it more like a standard drink.
