The Kentucky cocktail calls for two ounces of Kentucky bourbon and an ounce of pineapple juice. That might sound like a strange combination, but it actually works very well.
The pineapple brings out and sweetens the fruit notes in the bourbon. This sweet fruitiness – which isn’t overwhelming to begin with – gets somewhat overtaken by the oak notes toward the end, and that’s a nice contrast. It’s one of those drinks where each sip is so interesting that you almost can’t wait for the next one.
Recipe
- 2 ounces Kentucky bourbon (Maker’s Mark, Wild Turkey, Knob Creek, etc. – don’t waste a single malt on a cocktail!)
- 1 ounce pineapple juice
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add the ingredients. Shake well and strain into an old-fashioned glass.
