Captain & Ginger Cocktail Recipe, featuring Captain Morgan

By MixThatDrink

The Captain & Ginger drink recipe sounds like it was named after a Gilligan’s Island pairing. Is there actually Gilligan fan fiction out there? Probably. I’m not going to go look for it.

Or it could just take its name from the fact that it combines Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum with ginger ale or ginger beer – your choice. It’s basically the spiced rum version of a Dark ‘n’ Stormy, which is Black Seal rum with ginger beer. You could also think of it as the spiced rum version of a Moscow Mule, especially if you squeeze in plenty of lime juice.

Whether you use ginger ale or ginger beer is entirely a matter of taste. Gosling’s ginger beer makes a nice choice with this one. If you prefer ginger ale, Canada Dry is the cocktail standard. But since it makes up most of the drink, be sure to pick one that you like.

The flavor of this drink depends a little bit on what ginger drink you choose. But overall, it’s gingery with hints of spice, and some caramel notes from the rum.

I personally prefer this drink with a squeezed wedge of lime juice stirred in just before you drink it. But the lime is actually optional, so if you’re one of those people who don’t like the flavor of it, leave it out.
